this is the joyous news
that i was greeted with
when i picked the boys up from school
“guess what mom? me and marly
are in the blue-A reading group!!
we’re the only kids who can check out
chapter books!”
class pictures were also brought home
and i asked timmy about the kids in his class
“who do you like to play with?”
“who bothers you?”
“who gets in trouble?”
“who’s the smartest?”
not that i want to encourage classification
but i’m always curious about his experience
his perception
he never mentioned himself in the conversation
so i prodded…
“you don’t think you’re the smartest?”
“no, i’m about the middle smart.”
i love the pride in accomplishment –
especially when it is mediated by humility
way to go timmy!
